Our Firm's Story

attorneys group

Our firm's story starts with attorney Rob Dunlap's passion to help people.

Rob's first exposure to the criminal justice system happened in eighth grade, when he was asked to testify in court about a criminal act he witnessed. After college, while working as a social worker, he was further exposed to the law as he watched attorneys "go through the motions" in mental hygiene hearings. These lawyers did not seem to understand that they were representing individuals who had futures at stake. He vowed to be a different kind of lawyer — a lawyer who cares about each client who walks through his door.

Rob saw law as a vehicle to help others. More than a decade later, it is still his motto — and our law firm's goal — to represent each and every client as though he or she is a family member.

It's About More Than Experience

Yes, we have experience. In fact, among other things, Rob Dunlap has handled more fertility cases than any other attorney in West Virginia (he is of counsel with the International Fertility Law Center). He is also one of a handful of lawyers who know their way around West Virginia LGBT rights law. If you need an aggressive attorney, he'll be one. If you need a lawyer who knows how to negotiate and save you money, you'll find it in him.

But it's not all about experience. It's about the way your law firm approaches your case. At Robert Dunlap Esquire, PLLC, we know that a legal challenge can arise at all hours of the day, which is why we offer evening and weekend appointments upon request. We also know that you may be in the hospital due to an accident injury, or in jail due to a criminal charge. That is why we offer home, hospital and jail visits.

Because what it is about is you, your life and your future.

Wired To Help Others — In And Out Of the Legal Profession

"I learned early on that I was wired to help others," Rob Dunlap explains. In addition to being a compassionate lawyer with extensive experience in difficult areas of law, Mr. Dunlap is involved in a large number of nonprofit endeavors, including:

  • Red Cross Chair of Southern West Virginia Chapter (Board Chair)
  • Executive Board for the Downtown Beckley Business Association (Board Member)
  • Southern West Virginia Fellowship Home (Board Member)
  • The Women's Resource Center (including putting on heels to raise $46,000 for a Hunks in Heels fundraiser)
  • The Raleigh County and West Virginia Bar Association
  • The Disproportionate Minority Community Project (DMC/The Must Project)
  • The Beckley Historic Landmarks Commission (appointed by the mayor)
  • The Beckley Gay and Lesbian Community Center/GLCC (president)
